There has been an evident strategy of preserving the “dignity” of the Catholic Church at all costs. It apparently never occurred to Church officials that defending children and cooperating with the prosecution of sexual predators would be a far more effective way of maintaining Church integrity than protecting pedophiles and stonewalling investigations of their heinous crimes. The new teacher merit pay proposal won’t have any positive effect. Teacher pay is not the problem nor is it the solution. Have you ever worked for a boss whose motivational style was nothing but threats of firing you if you don’t produce? And who, at the same time, doesn’t properly fund the project, assigns you associates who lack basic skills, and sets amorphous, ever-changing goals? I know it’s my own fault that I missed my library book’s due date by one day. Still, it seems insanely inefficient that, because of Seminole County’s zero balance policy, I need to physically go to the library and hand my twenty cents to the librarian before I can renew the book.
